Airtel Night and Unlimited Data Plans

Airtel Night and Unlimited Data Plans

Airtel night plans appear to be one of the cheapest in the country at the moment.
Where Glo and Etisalat offer you just 1GB for ₦200, Airtel offers you 50% more! – 1.5GB.
You should know this:
Prior to this date (Sept. 10), the price of 1.5GB Trybe night plan was ₦50, but e be like say recession reach their side, they bumped the price to ₦200.
Here’s how you can get this plan:

Airtel Night Plans: SmartTrybe Bundles

Smart what?
*lol*
Wait, let me explain.
Scooped off their official web page,
SmartTRYBE is the special plan from Airtel designed to keep you connected with everything that’s up with your Trybe! With the best rates on data and calls to all networks, an amazing exclusive data deal and night browsing for your favorite music, movies and TV Series so you never miss a thing. That’s not all, you also get an unbeatable special weekend offer!
Blah, Blah, Blah.
That’s all jibber jabber. All I am interested in is the data!
Well, you should know that I tried it out and these are the speeds I got in Benin City (Airtel is not quite good in my location).
Airtel Night Plans
Now don’t get your hopes up, that’s Megabits per second not megabytes per second (yes there is a difference). In megabytes per second, that’s approximately 0.59MB/s.
I think these other shots should put it in context;
speed 1
I’m a huge Aiko fan 🙂
speed 5
Damn, low battery 🙁

You’ve seen the pictures, here’s how to opt-in:
First off, you must be subscribed to Airtel SmartTrybe Tariff plan. Getting in is pretty easy, just dial *312#
After migrating to SmartTrybe, you’d have the option of 500MB for ₦25 (Mtn has a similar plan) or 1.5GB for ₦200. All you need to do is select the plan which is most convenient for you.
You can start surfing by 12 am but the plan gets terminated at 5.
But if network connectivity is super strong in your area, like really strong, then you should definitely take a look at the next heading.

Airtel Unlimited Data Plans

I would be sincere:
This plan/post is not for everybody. If you are looking for reasonable Airtel data plans in Nigeria at the moment, I have written an always up to date post for that.
This article is for folks who are “heavy downloaders”, peeps who torrent large files but still spend a ton doing so even in trying times such as this.
Look:
The plans listed here are not “cheats” (I abhor cheats). They are also not new; they’ve been around for over six months now, and I am not kidding when I say you can get as high as 15GB (even 30GB) for a thousand naira!
Ok. Enough fiddling around, let’s get down to business.
Who remembers that Etisalat ₦15 for 5 minutes plan that was available sometime in 2014?
You do?
Well, Airtel has the same plan but their pricing is different as their lowest offer is 30 minutes for ₦300. Other plans are available on the time-based plans (dial *141# to see all plans) but the plan I am concerned with for this post is the 3 Hours for ₦1000 night plan.
No matter the bundle you opt in for, these plans give you unlimited access to the internet for the time you purchase, no speed throttling, no data caps.

Airtel 3 Hours for ₦1000 Unlimited Plan

Update (Jun ’17): This plan has been reviewed by Airtel down to 2 hours for ₦1000. Dial *481# to see new rates
This plan is only usable between 12 am and 6 am – the time normal humans use for sleeping. Fortunately/Unfortunately, I am not normal. The time normal folks are crashing is the time Internet scavengers (like me) get the bulk of our work done online – I am typing this post at 2:49 am.
Also, we both know that internet speeds are always maximum during off-peak periods (at night and weekends). So let’s assume your connection speed downloads at the rate of 300KB/s (which is even slow for nights), in 3 hours you would have downloaded/used-up 3GB data – do the math.
Assuming you are staying in an area with off-peak speeds of say 0.5MB/s, you would be bagging over 1.5GB for every hour used during that time.
What if you are lucky, and you’re staying in a place like mine:
Airtel Download speed
… and another …
Airtel download speed
That’s approximately 20GB in 3 Hours!
Wait, let me put it this way;
20GB for ₦1000! I.e. I am paying ₦50 per GB.
Hmmm …
I am not saying you should sacrifice your sleep for the internet, what I am trying to point out to you is this:
I know you have some huge files (movies, games, TV series, p*rn, software, whatever) which you would love to download. Instead of doing it over the meager 1GB you’d normally get for a thousand naira, batch them and choose a day (maybe 2) during the week when you’d download them all.
This could save you thousands!
This plan will not be available forever (it was previously priced at ₦200), so make the most of it while it lasts.
To subscribe to this plan dial *481#
One more thing:
If you’re considering doing this (or already are) I’d advice browsing between 2 am – 5 am. I have noticed speed is always maximum during that time block. 😉
P.S: This thing is very addictive. Thread with care.
